Hello all,
Sorry
about no posting last week. I was sick and tired from teaching class on Monday.
I am now on the mend, thank the Lord. Please pray for all the kids though, it
seems as if a lot of us are getting sick right now.
Well
this past week was a full school week. The 3rd graders are learning
about the basic bodily systems such as the respiratory system, our muscles and
bones and our digestive system. Some of the questions they asked were really
funny. They wanted to know if our heart stopped at night. They were very
confused by their pulse in their neck and wrist. How could your heart be in
your chest yet you feel it in other places. That one took a while to clear up.
They were sure we stopped breathing when we go to sleep. So I had them hold their
breath so they would see what happens when we stop breathing. Haha They were
amazed we kept breathing once we are asleep. The things they think of keep me
full of laughs. One of their school questions was to guess how many bones they
have in one hand and one foot. So I had the whole class write their guess on a
piece of paper and the one closest would get a sticker. (Stickers are a big
deal here. They are reserved for good grades and more often than not, they keep
all the stickers they get.) The average guess was 5 bones for each. They will
be amazed when I show them the x rays I found in one of our books. Just in case
you didn’t know, there are 27 bones in the human hand and 26 bones in the human
foot.
After
a full day of test taking on Friday, we played pictionary for the last bit of
class. They all love pictionary! The last drawing I had them do, was me. The
two girls who were drawing giggled. They practically drew the same thing, a
circle for a head and crazy medusa like hair. Before they could draw a body,
all 20 of them yelled LION!!!! Haha
it took a few moments for me to settle them down and tell them it was
not a lion. Their next guess was me. There was certainly some belly-aching
laughter afterwards. I guess with my short curly hair, I do resemble a lion J
Not
anything new going on. I would like to ask for prayer. I have a little over two
months to go until I come home. I have been battling my own discouraging
thoughts. I’m anxious to be home, yet heart-wrenching at the thought of
leaving. Then I think of all the things I have to figure out when I get home
and become overwhelmed. The kids and I learned Isaiah 26.3 a few weeks ago: “I
will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts
in you.” I pray that this would be me. That my mind would let go of all my
worry and anxiety, focus on God and what he has called me to do right now. I
know he will figure everything out, I just have to actively trust him everyday.
Well that is it for this week folks. God Bless!
Much love, Kelsey
